This painting must have something about it that has drawn me towards it. The subject is something that is very rarely seen and from a side of life that is often in the background. I presume this is why the dark tones against the light. I am sure you are fully aware of using warm and dark tones but you have seemed to manage these perfectly, not pushing the viewer away from the painting but engaging them with the warm tones. My regret in this painting is that the composition does not fit, the model just seems purely stuck in space. Also the choice of medium, this could have been a finer painting if the correct medium was chosen, to me the same effect could have been had with poster paint. Otherwise I do like this painting and I am sure you will revisit it again with a slightly new approach.
I love this piece of artwork. It reminds me a bit of Dan Brereton who paints in watercolors most of the time. This image gives the feeling of being a study of female anotomy at the same time a very simple but highly original femme fatale pulp fiction type. The coloring is highly original in terms of choice but it works on various levels to deliver a punch that while being subdued still makes the viewer do a double take. This could easily be the cover to a film noir/pulp fiction type of novel. It breeds a quiet type on intensity that speaks volumes.
Extremely well done. I remember adding you to my watchlist a while back and could tell by this picture which other image made me add you. The thick expressive stroke type of style is what got me interested. I have a question: If you paint from reference in traditional like it seems you do.. (just for position and scale i guess) how do you do it? Use a projector or trasnparent layer to paint in? Im dying to know how you do this, equipment wise. Have a good day Looking forward to see more of this style, its very distinct and easy to pinpoint who did it^^
